My assignment for today was to do an on-location interview at the old East Chicago Filtration Plant. This was my first on-camera assignment and I was happy to oblige. Before the interview had to do some research and in such learned even more about our wonderful city of East Chicago. The filtration plant was built in 1964 and has since gone through major water damage. A few years ago Mayor George Pabey and the city of East Chicago did an analysis on cost efficiency to repair the old damaged facility or to invest and rebuild a new filtration plant. The conclusion was to construct a new filtration facility. The new Nathaniel "Ned" Ruff Water Treatment facility is scheduled to be complete by 2011. This new facility will be eco-friendly and will have a capability of producing 17.3 million gallons of water per day. What a great improvement for our city.
As I review our work board and inquire my co-workers I realize that the multi-media department has to be knowledgeable and aware of all the happenings in East Chicago. I did not know how much the City of East Chicago has to offer! Here are a few things that are going on this summer:
Mayor George Pabey and the City of East Chicago will be hosting its traditional Independance Day Celebration at the East Chicago Marina Boardwalk on July 2, 2010. Festivities begin at 7pm and there will be fun, food, spirits, and musical performance by Los Cordoba. The night will end at dusk with a grand fireworks display by Mad Bomber.
ECTV will be covering this celebration and hopefully I will be there taking pictures!!
There will be a book signing at the East Chicago Main Library on Saturday July 10th at 2pm. Young up and coming author Latonya S. Hicks will be releasing her 5th book entitled "Dining With God." ECTV will be covering her book signing and I will be there to assist.
The Parks and Recreation Department has numerous upcoming events:
Every Tuesday during the month of July the East Chicago girls volleyball
team will be conducting a volleyball clinic from 1 to 3pm at Tod Park.
Washington Pool will be the host location for Adult Aqua Fitness from
6:45-8pm Tuesday through Thursday during the month of July.
On Monday, July 12th the Parks and Recreation Department is taking a trip
to the Olympia Lanes Bowling Alley in Hammond beginning at 1pm.
