An Intern's Eyes

I apologize for not posting on yesterday but my day was very busy!! For those of you who did not know, yesterday was National America's Night Out Against Crime. We kick off the event with a parade filled with children. I believe that if we want to stop crime and promote a drug-free environment, we must first start with our youth. All the youth centers and children participated by creating their own banner for our fight against crime and drugs. To make it more interesting, the centers had a contest on the best banner. At the conclusion of the parade, the children released over 250 red, white, and blue balloons. The children then proceeded to the Roxana Center and each center perform some form of skit to promote a drug-free environment and/or fight against crime in our neighborhoods.

You may ask "what was my role?" Glad you did. I was the photographer. Check out my pictures on Facebook. I accept any constructive criticism because I take pride in what I do.

Also, on last night we were at Kosciuszko Park to hear guest speakers, Lake County officials, and community leaders join "A Sister's Cry for Justice" (asisterscry1@verizon.net) in honoring victims of families that have lost loved ones to gun violence in our East Chicago community. Yesterdays events concluded with a parade throughout East Chicago's south-side community.

I must say, Mayor Pabey, Mr. Kenneth Monroe, Fran Nowacki, City of East Chicago in partnership with A Sister's Cry For Justice, Inc. and Nora did a fantastic job in mobilizing the community into taking decisive actions against gun violence.

Well that is all for now.

Until next time..........
